The Yoga of Non-Harming in Business

Practicing the ancient principle or yama of ahimsa (non harming) in business can transform your organization (even if it’s an organization of one).  If someone has a idea, even if YOU don’t think it will work, come from a place of inquiry…how about saying “that’s interesting tell me more” instead of “that will never work”.

Be Inquisitive.  Listen.  Practice Ahimsa.

Creating Abundance

I have been enjoying Deepak Chopra’s 21-Day Meditation Challenge. Today was day 9 and after completing the meditation and reflecting on how to bring Abundance into our lives I came to the simple conclusion that we must…

Give with no strings attached.

Receive with Grace.

Be Generous.                Be Gracious.                Experience Abundance.

Core Values

Yesterday, in my live tele-training, we had an in-depth discussion about the importance of having Core Values clearly defined as part of your business success model.  Why?  Core Values are your foundation, your guiding principles.  They are what keeps your business together in good times and bad.  Your Core Values represent your highest priorities and deeply held beliefs.  In our competitive environment, your clearly defined and communicated Core Values will set you apart from your competition and have your clients say yes to doing business with you over someone else.

Be Bold.  Be Purposeful.  Be guided by your Core Values.

Are You Excited?

I woke up this morning excited about what was possible for me today and it got me wondering…are you excited too?

Do you realize that what you do and what you offer NO ONE ELSE DOES?  You are uniquely YOU and people come to rely on you for that.  Now that’s exciting!

Show your enthusiasm and your passion for what you do and people can’t help but respond to it.

Be Excited.  Be Bold.  Be Yourself.

Back to School

Yesterday was the first day back to school after summer break.  I remember all of the mixed feelings of going back to school.  I didn’t want summer to end but I was also excited to see all of my friends that I had missed over the summer. There was  lots of anticipation and trepidation about who our teachers would be…and of course everyone had an opinion on if they were “good” or “bad”.

Let’s transport ourselves back to a time of learning, growth and development.  It’s the second day of school.  Who is in your circle of influence?  Do they have a positive or negative influence on your life, business and pursuit of dreams.  What “classes” are you taking to keep you mentally and physically engaged, excited and fit?  Have you chosen teachers and coaches to help keep you focused, motivated and accountable? Is your curriculum balanced between requirements, electives and advanced courses?

I encourage you to make this semester your best ever.

The Power of Words

We are intelligent people.  We know the power of words.  We don’t need to be reminded of this.  Or do we?

We have choices to make when we decide what words we will use to express ourselves.

I remember when my son was very small reading that his self-esteem could be strengthened or weakened depending on how I chose to discipline him.  For example if he did something “wrong” I could say “you are so stupid” or I could say “could you have made a different choice?”.

I admit I made plenty of mistakes but I made it a point to be mindful of my words so that he know it was his action not him that needed to be changed….and he is a very confident young man today.

The same principle applies to our own self-talk.  We are sometimes running old tapes that someone else helped us to record.  This is not a habit easily broken but it worth breaking.

One of the best tools I know of came out of my Sassy Mastermind with Lisa Sasevich when she introduced Edwene Gaines book “The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity” and Edwene’s 21-Day Challenge where she made a commitment that for 21 day she would not Gossip, Criticize or Complain – not to others or even to herself.

No negative language at all for 21 Days!

Don’t worry if you don’t make it to 21 Days all you have to do is start over with a new 21-Day cycle.

I promise you… this is a life changing tool that will help you reclaim your power.

Will you take this on?

A new twist on business planning

I was talking to my graphic designer,Linda Anderson, yesterday and she said something that made me laugh and gave me the idea for this blog! Thank you Linda.

We were talking about how we could help each other in our businesses and I mentioned that if someone said to her “I feel like I have no control” or “I feel like I’m going in circles” they would be a good referral for me. She said “you know that reminds me that when I talk to people in my home state of South Dakota, where the economy is much better than here in Nevada, I tell them that our idea of a business or retirement plan in Nevada is to win the California Lottery or just plane old wishful thinking”.

Even though she was joking it made me wonder…Is this a new twist on business planning? Have people given up? Is this your plan?

Just in case it is…I did a little research for you on Google and found this…”The odds of winning the California Super Lotto Jackpot are 1 in 18 million. (1) … If one person purchases 50 Lotto tickets each week, they will win the jackpot about once every 5000 years. (4) … You Win? California State University, Hayward.”

I could not find any statistics on wishful thinking but my “gut” tells me the odds are not much better than winning the California Lottery.

I’m not saying DON’T buy a lottery ticket or have wishful thinking but I am saying DO have a solid back-up plan in place where you have control over the outcome.

Yoga Off the Mat: Applying Ancient Principles to Modern Business

Wow! That’s a mouthful…but such a sweet mouthful, for me anyway. As many of you know I am a business coach AND a yoga teacher. I am passionate about both of these lines of work. However, the two have given me a sense of frustration and anxiety as well…for so many years they seemed so separate. One minute I was barefoot on a yoga mat and the next I was in heels in a boardroom.

For the past two years I have been highly invested in a mastermind where I have spent time exploring the possiblity of merging the two. It has led me to stand in both places, on and off the mat, simultaneously.

I was taught three important principles in my Anusara yoga training: Attitude. Alignment. Action. My big Aha came when I realized I was coaching clients on: Attitude. Alignment. Action. Plus I have added a few bonus’s.

Attitude: are you clear that you and only you is responsible for how your day will unfold
Authnticity: are you who you say you are
Alignment: having your purpose and vision for your business in alignment with your mission, core values and commitments
Action: your plan, your business in motion
Attraction: get the first four A’s down and attract the support and clients you were meant to serve

If you think this might be of help for you in your business please feel free to apply for a free strategy session with me at www.johannamcclain.com.

Have a great Attitude. Be Authentic. Get into Alignment. Get into Action. Attract the business and clients you desire.

For the Joy of it…..

I woke up this morning and was greeted by the beautiful early morning light, my sweet grand-dog always loving me unconditionally and the safety and shelter of my home.

I am full of Joy!

My morning “ritual” is to begin my day by Opening to Grace. I learned this in my Anusara yoga teacher training; the idea is to soften and receive what is already our devineness. That one simple action brings me Joy and opens the day in a most graceful way.

I am struck by how often we forget to pay attention to what brings us Joy.

I invite you today to find your Joy, make a deep connection, and see how your energy shifts.

Today, I invite you to write down at least five things that bring you Joy. As you write each thing down make a conscious effort not just to list, but experience what brings you Joy and pay attention to how this makes you feel…do this for the Joy of it!

Be Bold. Be Brave. Be Joyful!
