Bad Year Guarantee

Not to be a negative Nelly...just an honest observation.

No goals = no to low success. Guaranteed.

If you want your business to grow exponentially, get crystal clear on what you want to achieve, then write down your goals (this is the key....get your ideas on paper) and have an action plan in place to carry them out.

This is a living document now...don't put it on a shelf...put it in your hands every day.

Act now. Reap the rewards for years to come.

Are you keeping your promise?

As business owners, we make promises to ourselves, our clients, our employees, our vendors, our community....

Can you turn to yourself, your clients, your employees, your vendors and your community and say, without a doubt, "this is my promise to you and this is how I will keep my promise?"

Saying yes to those two questions is the foundation for building a trusted business brand.

If you would like to learn more, I have created a short guide that points you toward what it means to create a trusted brand and deliver on your brand promise.

You can get it for free here.

Fear or Fantasy?

By definition...

Fear: an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.

Fantasy: the faculty or activity of imagining things, especially things that are impossible or improbable.

My question is...are either one of these real or are they both imagined?

I have worked with hundreds of business owners and entrepreneurs and the #1 thing that holds them back is fear. And when we explore where this fear originates it is usually fantasy, imagined and not based in truth.

What are you afraid of?

Success? Failure? Being judged?

Do your fears hold you back?

Is there something you really want that you're not reaching for?

How do you overcome your fears?

What will you do to overcome the fear of moving forward and having life on your terms and not fears terms?

I would love to hear about what bold action you took today to kick fear to the curb!

In A Gratitude Rut?

I'm so very Grateful for my life and all of the remarkable people, like you, who have come into my orbit.

And there you have it...potential for a Gratitude Rut!

Don't get me wrong...I love and appreciate all the blessings in my life and as Thanksgiving (in the US) approaches, we become even more tuned in to what we are Grateful for. This means our daily Gratitude practice can run the risk of being like the movie Groundhound Day.

This week I invite you to challenge yourself and make a list of 50 daily Gratitudes...include the important ones (family, friends, clean water, pets etc)...and then begin to work on the ones you might take for granted.

I'll start...toilet paper, scissors, shampoo, tweezers, postage stamps, jokes, bubble baths...

Your turn...have fun and please feel free to share.

With Love and Gratitude,
Johanna

I’m Just Not Creative

I often hear this from business owners..."I'm just not creative".

For some reason we have an idea that creativity is limited to poets and painters.

I can't imagine anything more creative that creating and building a business, solving problems, providing services and generating revenue.

If you are not feeling creative in your business, take a look at where you are stuck and see if you can back away and look at a creative solution for getting un-stuck.

Need help? Please feel free to reach out to me for an "outsiders" viewpoint.

It’s comfy and cozy in here.

As the weather changes and a bit of a chill is in the air, I begin to bring out my comfy cozy slippers, robe, sweaters and favorite recipes all designed to help me feel good and safe and content.

That works...except in business!

In business, everything you want is outside of comfy and cozy...

What are you willing to do today that feels scary, risky maybe even exciting that would make a difference in your business a month from now, a year from now?

Take off those cozy slippers and feel your feet on the ground...now jump!

This is embarrassing

This is embarrassing...

Have you ever done something or made a mistake, unintentionally of course, and then had to make a decision about how to clean it up?

I was recently with my meditation teacher and our group at a retreat in the San Juan Islands on this beautiful estate overlooking the bay (if you have never been there…GO!).

It was a deeply moving and transformational 4 days.

When we were packing to leave, I grabbed a few apples and pears for the road since I drove from Reno to our retreat location.

I went into my fridge on Tuesday and low and behold were these beautiful pears…I took them out to enjoy and discovered they were not real! Gosh they looked so real! I even tried to wish them real to no avail!

Not only were they not real…I stole them, unintentionally of course, and now what do I do?

Ignore the mistake and hope that no one has noticed the missing “fruit”?

Fess up to my meditation?? teacher and ask how I can return them?

What do you think? How do you handle the embarrassing moments or unintentional mistakes?

Are you Interested or Committed?

Are you interested or committed.

?

I was listening to John Assaraf’s Brainathon yesterday and he ask a powerful question around how we look at our goals.

The question was…”Are you interested or are you committed?”

Is it worth taking a serious look at our goals, especially the ones that are not complete, and go through the process of assigning an I or a C to each one and laser focus on the C’s?

That’s my plan this week. How about you?

What are you afraid of?

What Are You Afraid Of?

I did a little research on some of the top fears American’s suffer from and here’s what I found…

Overall, fear of public speaking is America’s biggest phobia – 25.3% say they fear speaking in front of a crowd. Clowns, 7.6% feared, are officially scarier than ghosts (7.3%), but zombies are scarier than both at 8.9%.

It’s interesting because when I talk to clients, they never mention clowns, ghosts or zombies…there is some fear of public speaking but it is mostly related to “being seen”, “being vulnerable”, “being judged or criticized”, “being wrong”, “not being good enough”, “not having enough money”, “not having enough time”…

Whew that’s a lot of energy spent on being afraid….or really more about worry…the nasty twin of fear!

You know what worries me? It’s that this condition is similar to a low grade fever that we learn to live with, tolerate or rationalize.

Please let me know what you do to eliminate fear and worry so I can stop worrying about you!

With love and Gratitude,

Johanna McClain

PS: My technique…The Peace Process™ taught by Christian Mickelsen. And of course my personal mantra when those nasty thoughts crop up…’liar liar pants on fire’!

How do you eat an elephant?

Take one bite at a time.

I am not advocating eating an elephant. They are endangered and such noble creatures. Besides, I’m a vegetarian…

The point is to chunk it down. Mark Twain put it this way “The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex, overwhelming tasks into small, manageable tasks, and then starting the first one”.

Do you have something BIG that you’re up to and don’t know where to start?

Here’s an idea: Divide your big idea into 7 steps… (hint: begin with the end in mind so you know what your end result will be). Then assign 5 action items to each step with timelines and who will help you accomplish the action or hold you accountable for the action.

Let me know how it goes.
