Looking in the Rearview Mirror…

This is the final post of our series for the year.  It has been a pleasure sharing Jack Canfield’s The Success Principles with you.

My goal was to post a weekly recap of one of the 67 Principles offered is his 10th Anniversary Edition…

I missed a few weeks along the way which I apologize for.  Maybe you didn’t notice, however I did and this sets us up for the final post.

SPEAK WITH IMPECCABILITY – Principle #51.  I can’t think of a better way to close this decade and open into the next than with this principle.

To speak with impeccability is to speak from your highest self. It means that you speak with intention and with integrity.

For more on speaking with impeccability you can turn to The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. The very first, and he says most important agreement, is to be impeccable with your word. Words have power… the power to uplift and build and the power to deflate and destroy.

How will you use your words?

PS: Thank you Jack Canfield for your impeccable work and words.

PPS: This is most likely that last post on this site.  I am not walking away from my coaching business…I’m just not focusing my full attention here.

PPPS: As we move into a new decade I look back with gratitude to what gifts (including you) have come my way and look forward to what the next decade will bring.

PPPPS: As many of you may know I have been a yoga practitioner and teacher for many years. I have decided to follow a dream and have created an online yoga studio, Not Your Daughter’s Yoga ™ at www.nydy.life.  I hope we can meet there.

Tell The Truth Faster

Have you ever felt that unsettling discomfort when you’re challenged to Tell The Truth?

Why we don’t tell the truth:

  • It’s uncomfortable
  • We’re afraid of the consequences
  • We might hurt someones feelings

Why we need to tell the truth:

  • We deal in reality with the truth
  • Our energy is freed up
  • We stay honest
  • We respect ourselves and others when we tell the truth

What a  powerful Principle #50 is.  Thank you Jack Canfield for reminding us of it’s importance.

“When in doubt, tell the truth”. Mark Twain

Have A Heart Talk

Principle #49 is one of my favorites from The Success Principles of Jack Canfield.

In this chapter he shares the Heart Talk process by its creator Cliff Durfee. Mr. Durfee says…

“Most communication resembles a Ping-Pong game in which people are merely preparing to slam their next point across; but pausing to understand differing points of view and associated feelings can turn apparent opponents into true members of the same team”.

Results you can expect from Heart Talk:

  • Enhanced listening skills
  • Constructive expression of feelings
  • Improved conflict resolution skills
  • Improved abilities to let go of resentments and old issues
  • Development of mutual respect and understanding
  • Greater sense of connection, unity and bonding

From my heart to yours…..

Principle #47 “Inquire Within”

Michael J. Gelb, author of How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci and Discover Your Genius has said “Brain researchers estimate that your unconscious data base outweighs the conscious on an order exceeding ten million to one. This data base is the source of your hidden, natural genius. In other words, a part of you is much smarter than you are. The wise people regularly consult that smarter part”.

Here are a few things you can do to “consult that smarter part” and ‘inquire within’.

  • Trust Your Intuition. You know….that gut feeling.
  • Meditate. Meditation will deepen your intuition.
  • Be mindful. To learn more on becoming more mindful visit www.TheSuccessPrinciples.com/resources. Scroll down to Principle 47 and click on the appropriate link.

Remember: “A part of you is much smarter than you are”.

Mastermind Your Way To Success

Principle #46 from Jack Canfield is one of my favorites and one I have consistently invested time and money in for over 10 years now.

Why get into a mastermind?

  • You can’t see what you can’t see.
  • It’s difficult to find solutions with the same mind that creates the problem.
  • It’s stimulating to mastermind with motivated, creative and energetic people that are up to cool things.

If you want ideas and structure on how to create a mastermind go to: www.TheSuccessPrinciples.com/resources and scroll down to Principle #46.

I’d love to hear back from you on your experiences with being in a mastermind.

The Company You Keep…

Aesop is quoted as saying “A man is known by the company he keeps”.

Jack Canfield in Principle #44 reminds us to “Create a Network of Mentors and Others Who Will Up-Level You”.

Look at the people around you and and see who you want to spend more time with because they are exciting, positive, innovative and fun.

Build your close network…support and be supported.

Say NO! Just Do It…

Q. Is that really OK?  A. Yes.

Q. Isn’t it rude?  A. No.

Q. Won’t it make someone feel bad or even worse force them to have to say YES to our No?  A. No.

How do we maneuver this with Grace?

  • Clear communication about when you’re available and for what.

How do we avoid being out of integrity?

  • Answering with “maybe”, that’s not a clear communication.
  • Answering with “I’ll get back to you”, and not following up is not a clear communication.

Don’t be afraid to say NO…as a result of a clear NO your YESES will be so much more appreciated.

Principle 42. Jack Canfield keeps it simple…JUST SAY NO!

Redefine Time

Principle #40.

My mentor, Christian Mickelsen, says “we have all the time in the world”.

If that’s true:

  • Why are we so busy?
  • Why isn’t there ever enough time?
  • Why is our to-do list never complete?
  • Why do we run late?

What if, as Jack Canfield suggests, we “Redefine Time”?

What if as Christian Mickelsen says “We Have All The Time In The World”?

I think the answer is found in how we choose to spend our time: focus on what’s important; be prepared to say No and do what brings you joy.

“It is not that we have a short time live, but that we waste a lot of it”

Motivated. Driven. Inspired.

What best describes how you stay in action?

How do you stay motivated and keep from giving up when things get tough?

In Principle 37 Jack Canfield recommends “listening to the masters”.

Who has time for that you ask?

Let’s get creative and look for opportunities where you might find the time….

  • Walking the dog.
  • On a long commute.
  • On the treadmill.
  • Waiting.

Not sure of where to start or who to listen to? Some of Jack Canfield’s favorites can be found here: www.TheSuccessPrinciples.com/resources.

And if you like his work go to www.JackCanfield.com for more motivation.

And as the always inspiring Zig Zigler once said: “Of course motivation is not permanent. But neither is bathing, but it is something you should do on a regular basis”,

Commit to Lifelong Learning

When my grandmother, “Gingle”, turned 90 I traveled to Albuquerque to celebrate this special day with her and lots of family members.

Gingle, an avid reader, greeted me when I walked into her home with this…”Joey Sue I’m reading the most incredible book…7 Habits of Highly Effective People” and she proceeded to share a passage that she was especially inspired by.

My grandmother taught us, our family, the love of reading and the joy of a commitment to Lifelong Learning.

Jack Canfield titled Principle #36 Learn More to Earn More.  This applies and I would also add…learn more to transcend limiting beliefs, expand your world view and enjoy the richness of other cultures.

PS: Thank you Gingle
