How do you eat an elephant?

Take one bite at a time.

I am not advocating eating an elephant. They are endangered and such noble creatures. Besides, I’m a vegetarian…

The point is to chunk it down. Mark Twain put it this way “The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex, overwhelming tasks into small, manageable tasks, and then starting the first one”.

Do you have something BIG that you’re up to and don’t know where to start?

Here’s an idea: Divide your big idea into 7 steps… (hint: begin with the end in mind so you know what your end result will be). Then assign 5 action items to each step with timelines and who will help you accomplish the action or hold you accountable for the action.

Let me know how it goes.

Can you believe that?

Have you ever stopped and really listened to the negative mental chatter in your head?

Would you ever talk to anyone the way to talk to yourself?

Would you ever tolerate anyone talking to you the way you talk to yourself?

And then to really make things interesting, have you ever found yourself wondering what other people might be thinking about you?

I didn’t think so…but just in case it ever happens to you…

Start to notice, become aware of your inner dialogue and know that what you choose to believe is up to you.

And if that crazy making mind says “I can’t”, what do you do?

Here’s my little secret…I stop…I notice my thoughts…and then I say my favorite mantra…’liar liar pants on fire’ and then get back to the business of believing!

Price -vs- Priceless

I was with my mastermind group in San Diego this week and we had a free evening to go out for dinner. Two of my buddies and I began our walk to the restaurant and while waiting to cross the street, we were invited, by a very enthusiastic disco rickshaw driver, to take a ride…

We could not say no the the flashing lights and pulsing music, so we hopped on and seat danced our way to the restaurant! It was so much fun to be a free-wheelin’ tourist!

When we arrived at our destination and went for our wallets, we were shocked to be told that our transportation cost was $30…per person. You read right $30 per person.

So the question is, would we have allowed ourselves this wonderful joyous experience if we had ask about the price first? Answer…hell no!

How many times have you robbed yourself of a trip, a business opportunity, the car you really wanted based on price?

Next time you get to choose…choose priceless over price. I can honestly tell you, in hindsight I would have paid double for that rickshaw ride.

What’s possible?

Crazy as you may think it sounds…what’s possible is what you believe is possible!

Just think if the Wright brothers didn’t believe we could fly…well probably someone else would have figured it out but you get what I’m saying.

What do you need to believe is possible in order for your brain to assist you in taking on the job of accomplishing it?

I read this in Jack Canfield’s book ‘Success Principles’:

“It’s not what you don’t know that holds you back; it’s what you do know that isn’t true”.

Hmmmmmm that’s worth some thinking on…

Write it down. What do you know that isn’t true?

Feel like sharing? I’d love to hear from you.

What’s the point?

I really mean…what’s my Purpose?

It’s an age old question. An important question. And it may be easier to answer than we think…

If you stopped searching outside of yourself, for just a moment, it just might bubble to the surface.

You see, your soul knows your purpose…that’s why it chose YOU!

Try this exercise:

Sit quietly. Take a few deep breaths from deep in your belly. Drop out of your head and into your heart. Now meditate on these questions:

What do people naturally come to me for? (Advice, a good laugh, a warm hug, an open ear and a quiet mouth, help with relationships, etc….)

What comes easily to me? (Problem solving, listening, teaching, researching, networking, connecting people, peacekeeping, a good joke or story, etc…)

Without editing; journal / write down what comes to mind.

Please message me at johanna@johannamcclain.com and share what you found out about your Purpose.

Be still. Be trusting. Be yourself.

The Power of Many!

I was recently at a full day mastermind with over 40 other business owners and entrepreneurs.

The theme…collaboration not competition.

Many times we feel like we have to do everything on our own. What I have learned about that business strategy is that it’s lonely. We’re not always our best advisor or mentor and it’s way more fun to to brainstorm with other like minded people.

Are you in collaboration, (super conductor style), with your business community? If not, what can you do to get there?

Need ideas? Please feel free to reach out to me.

Why can’t I blame you?

?

Oooooh I so want to!

This would get me off the hook for taking personal responsibility for my life.

What can I get from this strategy?

Will I be courageous?

Will I grow and stretch beyond my wildest dreams?

Will I become the person I want to be?

Will I respect myself and others?

I don’t believe I will achieve these personal heights if i choose to blame you…you being a stand-in for life.

We get nowhere fast by blaming life, being the victim and not taking full, and I mean 100%, responsibility for our actions and our reactions.

Are you willing to take on building your Responsibility Muscle?

Yes…it may be a little painful at first, but with a consistent workout, this muscle can take you a long way toward creating a life that you’ll love living.

Be Bold. Be Strong. Be Responsible.

In Gratitude,

Marketing and Multi-Vitamins

When you decide you need to boost your energy and supplement your diet by beginning a multi-vitamin regimen…what’s the first step?  Research.  Do your homework to find the product(s) that will best suite your health goals.  Once you have made a decision, a purchase and you take your first daily dose…do you expect instant results?  Do you take your supplement one day and based on those results decide if it works or not. If your answer is YES you have set yourself up for failure.  The correct answer is NO!  It takes time and it takes paying attention to the subtle and not so subtle effects.  Then it takes adjusting your regimen not abandoning your regimen for optimal results.

When you decide you need to boost your sales and supplement your business awareness in the marketplace…what’s the first step?  Research.  Do your homework to find the marketing products and services that will best speak to your clients and potential clients that will turn them into buyers…thus reaching your sales goals and growth potential.  Once you have made a decision, a purchase and you launch your marketing campaign…do you expect instant results?  If your answer is YES you have set yourself up for failure.  The correct answer is NO!  It takes time and it takes paying attention and it takes listening (a future blog) for the subtle and not so subtle effects.  Then it takes adjusting your campaign not abandoning your campaign for optimal results.

Be Smart.      Be Willing.      Be Committed.      Be Consistent.

The Yoga of Non-Stealing in Business

In Sanskrit the word for Non-Stealing is Asteya. The obvious is not taking what does not belong to us and we often think of our possessions but I would like to broaden that as we think of how we conduct ourselves in our business relationships.  One of the areas that we need to be mindful of, because we cannot get or give it back, is time.  A precious valuable asset.  Examine and practice Asteya, the Non-Stealing, of Time and set this powerful Principle in motion.

We are building a solid foundation for our business…

Ahimsa, non-harming.    Satya, truthfulness.    Asteya, non-stealing.
